ABOUT OUR CLINIC

Do you ever wish healthcare could be . . . different?

I do, and that’s why I established OUR CLINIC.

After working as a Nurse Practitioner in settings where I barely had time to get to know the patient’s medical history – much less the patient as a person – I realized there had to be a better way.

Imagine having a cup of coffee with a friend, and discussing something that is on your mind or progress on a goal that you have been chipping away at for some time. Your friend not only knows you, but they know what you value and how hard you have worked (and continue to work) to reach your goals.

Why can’t you have that experience in a healthcare encounter?

At OUR CLINIC, you can.

I started OUR CLINIC to have the freedom to work the way I want to work as a Nurse Practitioner. Instead of jumping through a series of hoops to get your healthcare – make an appointment, find a parking spot, check in, wait, rush back to the exam room, wait again, then make yourself instantly vulnerable to the clinician that you may be meeting for the first time – I wanted the patients that I worked with to have a more valuable, higher yield visit.

I wanted to practice in a clinical setting that emphasized innovation, hard work and nontraditional (yet still evidence based!) approaches to the clinical encounter. I wanted to be able to make the change that my patients requested, instead of referring them to someone else with hope that their voice would be heard.

I believe in the essential nature of the co-production of healthcare. The best health advice in the world is meaningless if the patient isn’t on board. My experience is that healthcare works best when the provider and the patient work together to formulate a strategy; you tell me what is important to you and what your goals are, and I will give you my advice on how you can reach those healthcare goals.

At OUR CLINIC, you will be seen, you will be heard, you will be a partner in your health.

It's not my clinic; it's OUR CLINIC.

BETTER

Gawande's gripping stories of diligence, ingenuity, and what it means to do right by people take us to battlefield surgical tents in Iraq, to labor and delivery rooms in Boston, to a polio outbreak in India, and to malpractice courtrooms around the country. He discusses the ethical dilemmas of doctors' participation in lethal injections, examines the influence of money on modern medicine, and recounts the astoundingly contentious history of hand washing.

OUR NOISE

Merge Records defies everything you've heard about the music business. Started by two twenty-year-old musicians, Merge is a lesson in how to make and market great music on a human scale.

THE PROBLEM WITH MUSIC

"Nobody can see what’s printed on the contract. It’s too far away, and besides, the stench is making everybody’s eyes water. The lackey shouts to everybody that the first one to swim the trench gets to sign the contract. Everybody dives in the trench and they struggle furiously to get to the other end."

OUR BAND COULD BE YOUR LIFE

Our Band Could Be Your Life is the never-before-told story of the musical revolution that happened right under the nose of the Reagan Eighties -- when a small but sprawling network of bands, labels, fanzines, radio stations, and other subversives re-energized American rock with punk's do-it-yourself credo and created music that was deeply personal, often brilliant, always challenging, and immensely influential.
